Can you record at a higher resolution than monitor?
1 Answer. Turns out Nvidia DSR Factors DOES allow true 4k recording from a 1080p monitor. I had to make sure DSR was turned to 4x, then in Windows “Change Display Settings”, set the resolution to 3140×2160, then restart the computer, finally in OBS change the Video input/output resolution to 3140×2160.
Does monitor resolution affect screen recording?
To put it simply the full screen resolution of your display is the maximum resolution that you can record at. If you record a smaller area in your screen, the resolution will be lower – for example, if you’re using a 1080p display the only way to record a 1080p video is to capture the full screen.

To capture 4k, you need your monitor resolution as 4k. Otherwise the game isn’t rendering in 4k. Nvidia DSR will work fine, because it cheats the system and tells it has a 4k monitor connected, so every game will create a 4k framebuffer and render in 4k.
Is 4k a resolution?
“4K” refers to horizontal resolutions of around 4,000 pixels. The “K” stands for “kilo” (thousand). As things stand, the majority of 4K displays come with 3840 x 2160 pixel (4K UHDTV) resolution, which is exactly four times the pixel count of full HD displays (1920 x 1080 pixels).
Which resolution is best for recording?
For best results, record at exactly the same target resolution at which you want to display. For example if you’re producing 16:9 720p, you should record 1280×720 pixels, and you should set your monitor to that resolution.
Which resolution is best for video recording?
If you’re looking for more flexibility in your editing, then try 2k or 4k and output in 1080p. If you want the MAXIMUM quality possible, then of course – go for the highest resolution you can, but for most everyday content videos 1080p or even 720p are enough.
Does Monitor matter for recording?
The 144 Hz monitor would only make streaming/recording more difficult, as the system will have to be able to render more than twice as many frames as on a 60 Hz monitor (more CPU and GPU load, less resources for OBS). Maxing out your GPU trying to push 144 FPS will severely impact OBS performance.
