In a manual box , we can run the engine at lower RPMs if we ride in high gear and lower speed (say 40 kph in 5th gear). This reduces the fuel consumption. This does not happen in CVT. Hence scooters give low mileage because the engine runs at the same (comparatively) higher RPM even at low speeds.
