Can you screw blinds into window frame?
You should not screw directly into the frame of the vinyl window. Instead, you should attach the brackets to the top and sides of the inside opening; make sure the bottom of the blinds won’t bang into the vinyl finger-hold at the bottom of the window when fully extended.
Can you drill into a wooden window frame?
Short answer yes. But the wood frame around a window is usually thin, about ¼″, so there’s not a lot of material for the screw to ‘bite’ into. It will hold your blinds up as long as they’re not super heavy. Use your drill with a 3/16″ drill bit to make a pilot hole so the wood frame does not split.
Is it OK to drill into window frame?
It is possible to drill through the frames and the steel reinforcement if necessary. But it is always possible that it can compromise on the quality by damaging the frame and cause water seepage. It doesn’t happen too often, but the possibility always exists.
Can you screw directly into wood?
You can just drive the screws right into the lumber. It’s fast and efficient. Plus, a pilot hole will help the screw to drive in straight. To drill a pilot hole, select a drill bit that’s the same diameter or slightly less than the shank of the screw you are going to use.
What screws to install blinds?
Attach using 1-1/4-inch drywall screws to attach brackets to lumber framing. Use the supplied screws with plastic anchors. Install an additional support bracket at the center to support the window covering if recommended in blind instructions. To avoid twisting the brackets, do not overtighten the screws.
What screws to use to mount blinds?
You probably need at least 1/2 inch of screw thread in wood for a safe hold on blinds. More is better. Remember that the plasterboard/plaster doesn’t count. Try to guage how thick it is (probably either 3/8 or 1/2 inch) and add that to the depth into the wood.
How do you drill a screw into a window frame?
Install a cobalt drill bit in a power drill and put on safety glasses. Put a few drops of lightweight machine oil on the tip of the drill bit. Work from the stepladder. Use light pressure on the drill to avoid it sliding away from a mark, and begin drilling the first hole.
Do I need a pilot hole for wood screws?
Pilot holes are necessary if you’re drilling into hardwood, laminate, or need a precisely located fastener. They’re also recommended if the wood is likely to crack, or if appearance is important. You can skip the pilot holes when doing a rough build with softwood where appearance isn’t important.
Should you use anchors for blinds?
If your window frame is drywall rather than wood, or if your window frame doesn’t have wood behind the drywall, you should use drywall anchors. There is a “hammer in” style (pictured below) that might be included with your mounting hardware, or you can find a “screw in” style at the hardware store.

How do you install blinds inside a window?
Installation. There are many places to install blinds. When installed inside the window opening, the brackets can be attached to the top of the opening, the sides or directly on the trim that keeps the sash in place. Installations outside the opening are usually screwed into the window trim or anchored into plaster or drywall.
Can you drill through a window frame?
It is because of this reason that it is not advisable to screw the brackets directly onto the vinyl channel which holds the window together. For this reason, the brackets need to be fixed at the top or on the sides of the inside opening or outside. Never drill through the actual frame of the window but only drill through jamb extensions.
How do you attach blinds to drywall with screws?

To install the blinds, you simply have to remove the protective strip and press the tape to the inside of the window frame or the upper trim. Peel-and-stick blinds come in a few standard sizes and are usually made of paper so they can be trimmed to the exact dimensions of your windows.
