Is it OK to add RAM with different frequency?
You can’t add RAM of different sizes (frequencies/models/etc.) If you install two RAM sticks of different frequencies, both of them will be working on the lowest frequency. So, if you Installed one stick with 1600Mhz and other with 2400Mhz, the latter will work on 1600Mhz, thus lowering its efficiency.
What if I put higher frequency RAM?
It makes no difference. If the RAM run as a faster frequency then supported by the CPU it will be ran at the frequency that is supported.
Is a higher frequency better for RAM?
RAM frequency is measured in MHz and usually immediately follows the DDR version in the RAM spec. This is why though higher frequency RAM is technically faster, that additional speed often does not translate into better actual real world performance.
Can I run RAM at lower frequency?
As long as you ensure that you’re using the correct type of RAM it will be able to run, no matter what the rated frequency of the RAM is. When first installed, RAM will default to a low “JEDEC” speed (usually 2133MHz for DDR4), and all DDR4-compatible motherboards will be able to run at this speed.
Should both RAM be the same frequency?
The short answer: you almost certainly won’t hurt anything just by trying to install the two DIMMs together. The potential problem is not related to using different frequencies of RAM; any motherboard will fall back to the speed of the slower memory module (DIMM).
Can I put 3200mhz RAM in 2666mhz motherboard?
Yes, as long as the motherboard is DDR4 compatible. This means that the sticks are 288 DIMMs and the motherboard supports that. While the label on the RAM kit may say “3200mhz,” that is simply the speed it can run at when overclocked with XMP.
Can you use slower RAM on a faster motherboard?
You can use a slower RAM on faster motherboard. Technically the combination is going to work but performance will be highly compromised by RAM speed. So it’s advisable to use exact speed RAM module as specified on the motherboard as the maximum support speed.
What does RAM frequency affect?
RAM frequency can affect gaming performance. The system memory contains the data that the CPU works with. If the memory is too slow, then the CPU is left waiting which can in turn leave the GPU left waiting to receive data from the CPU. Another common value is the CAS (google if you want).
Is it better to have more slower RAM or less faster RAM?
While RAM speed is important, it’s better to have more RAM than faster RAM. If you’re configuring your PC and have budget constraints, then you might find it economical to buy more RAM that’s rated at a slower speed than fewer, faster modules.
Can I use 3200mhz RAM with 2666mhz RAM?
Yes you can, but then your other ram which is 3200 Mhz will slow itself down to 2666 Mhz to stay in sync with your slower RAM.
Can you mismatch RAM speed?
While you can technically mix speeds, there is one important thing to note: your DRAM would all run at the speed of the slowest module. For example, if you have a DDR3 1333MHz system and install a second module at 1600MHz, they would both run at the 1333MHz speed.
