The number of students who have been admitted from the waitlist has varied widely in previous years. While during one recent year, we were not able to admit any students from the waitlist, in others we were able to admit hundreds of students.

Of those students who chose to remain on the waitlist (50\%), colleges only accepted an average of 20\%, with only 7\% of waitlisted students at the most selective colleges eventually gaining admission – down from 14\% in previous years.

Getting off the wait list at an elite Private university is a low percentage event. All the best. You can contact them and tell them you are no longer interested: or you can just not bother. When I was in high school I applied to six colleges. I was admitted to three, and put on the wait list for three.
