What does a magnetic filter do?
A magnetic filter is a device that collects magnetic debris within a heating system. Rust and corrosion can form in pipes over time, and the subsequent debris will peel off and combines with other debris to form a sludge-like substance.
Are magnetic boiler filters any good?
Magnetic filters are designed to catch this sludge and therefore prevent these problems. The fact that they are magnetic means they are effective at attracting and removing the corroded iron and steel material within the sludge. Designs that include a gravity filter also remove non-ferrous debris.
Is there a way to eliminate the effect of magnetic field?
The simple answer is that it is not possible to totally ‘block’ a magnetic field. The essence of a magnet, as determined by nature, is that magnetic field lines must terminate on the opposite pole and, therefore, there is no way to stop them.
What does a boiler filter do?
Magnetic filters, or boiler filters, are fitted to your boiler’s pipework, extracting any debris from the water flowing through the pipes so that there isn’t a build-up which can restrict the flow of water.
How do I clean the magnetic filter on my boiler?
The most effective way to clean your magnetic filter is to use a high pressure hose, or standard to remove the rust and debris. Take extra care to clean everywhere thoroughly as well as the lid to ensure none of this debris is put back into the system.
How long do magnetic filters last?
However, you should still maintain them if possible. Most of these filters will last at least two years on your boiler system, and some up to 10 years.
What can block magnetic fields?
Magnetic fields cannot be blocked, only redirected. The only materials that will redirect magnetic fields are materials that are ferromagnetic (attracted to magnets), such as iron, steel (which contains iron), cobalt, and nickel.
How do you block an electromagnetic field?
If you want to block out magnetic “force,” your best bet is to re-route magnetic field lines (lines of magnetic flux) around the object that is sensitive to those lines. Do this by shielding the object in a material with a much higher magnetic permeability of the surrounding materials.
Where do you put MagnaClean?
A. MagnaClean Professional is suitable for all central heating systems and can be fitted anywhere on the main heating circuit. In order to achieve the best protection for the boiler, it is recommended that MagnaClean Professional is fitted between the last radiator and the boiler (see diagram overleaf).
What is a magnetic boiler filter and how does it work?
This is where a magnetic filter can help. As sludge and dirt build up in the pipes, your boiler will slowly lose efficiency which can then lead to your energy bills increasing. A boiler filter will capture all of the dirt and debris before the water is prevented from flowing through the system.
Can I add a magnetic filter to my existing heating system?
If you’d like to add a magnetic filter to your heating system but aren’t looking to replace your boiler then you can still have one fitted to your existing system. However, depending on where your boiler is installed, it might not be practical.
What is a magnetic filter and why do I need one?
The purpose of a magnetic filter is to catch most of the sludge that circulates around your heating system. If ignored, this mixture of metallic and non-metallic deposits can build-up to the point where your radiators have cold patches, your boiler’s efficiency is drastically lowered, and your energy bills are raised.
How does a magnetic radiator filter work?
A magnetic filter works by catching all of the debris that that corrodes from the inside of your radiators, it is a small ovular device that has a magnet inside that catches anything magnetic that tries to go into your boiler.
