What happens if there is no potential difference?

What happens if there is no potential difference?

If there is no potential difference means the circuit is not alive. It is dead. In case of short circuit, the amount of current flowing will depend on the amount of voltage the circuit is carrying. Basically short circuit current can be measured in terms of 10 times the operating current of the circuit.

Why does current only flows in a closed circuit?

When there is no gap in the loop, the current only flows when a circuit is complete. In a closed loop or closed circuit the electrons flow through the connecting wires and parts such as lamps from the negative terminal or connection to the power source and back to the positive terminal.

Why current does not flow in open circuit?

An open circuit has an extremely high resistance ( theoretically infinite resistance) between the two electrical points of an electrical system. This means there is effectively no path readily available for the current to flow berween the two points in normal condition. Hence, no current flows as a consequence.

Will current flow if potential difference is zero?

Current will not flow when the potential difference is zero.

In which circuit current does not flow?

Answer: CURRENT DOES NOT FLOW IN AN OPEN ELECTRIC CIRCUIT.

Can a current flow without potential difference?

Without potential difference, current can not flow because we know that an electric current flows between two points due to the potential difference between them. Thus, as long as the potential difference is maintained between the two points, the electric current keeps flowing continuously.

Can current flow exist without voltage?

Voltage attempts to make a current flow, and current will flow if the circuit is complete. It is possible to have voltage without current, but current cannot flow without voltage.

What happens when there is no potential difference in a circuit?

So, where there is no potential difference — there is no movement, either in a series or a parallel circuit. When there is no potential difference in the circuit, then no current will flow. But in the case of a short circuit, will the current flow?

Can current flow through a conductor without potential difference?

Ans: -No, emf is responsible for the flow of current. When we apply a battery to the ends of a conductor then due to the potential difference between the ends of battery free electrons in the conductor move and respond to the external electric field applied. So, we can say that without potential difference there is no concept of current flow.

Can current flow if potential energy does not return to ground?

The potential to it’s ground would still be the same but current would simply not flow. Electricity always want to come back to its ground, an analogy to potential energy in physics can be used. A ball on top of a hill always “wants” to fall to because that’s the natural way of things, but it can be blocked from falling.

What happens if the resistance becomes zero in a short circuit?

If the resistance becomes zero (i.e short circuit) the current will still not flow as there is no potential difference. In this circuit the resistance is zero hence short ciruit. One of the end is connected to +5V and other to the ground. So the potential difference turns out to be 5V. Also, the resistance is zero or negligible (R=0).
